The Village of Frankfort offers shopping to suit every budget, taste and need. From its historic downtown area to the Prairie Crossing retail center, Frankfort has something for every shopper and visitor.

With old-fashioned streetscapes and street lights, Frankfort’s downtown area is well known for its assortment of specialty shops ranging from home décor to unique glass designs. Collectors and browsers alike will enjoy the variety of antique shops offering unique historic works of art, artifacts and collectibles in picturesque 1890s surroundings. The Trolley Barn, located on Kansas Street, houses a mixture of home décor items, ice cream parlor and antique mall. The Village continues its work to re-energize its downtown historic area with an infusion of new restaurants and shops as well as to take care to nurture its established downtown businesses.

The newly opened “Square,” built in a neotraditional style, is located at Route 45 and Old Frankfort Way. This mixed use development acts an extension of the historic district and features retail, dining and residential units.

Retail development is evident along Route 45 and Route 30. Prairie Crossing, at Route 30 and Wolf Road, anchors a Kohl’s, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Sports Authority and Office Depot in addition to other smaller stores. Frankfort Crossings, The Vineyards, Hickory Creek Market Place and The Town Center along Route 45 offer a wide variety of products, services and shops ranging from upscale clothing, jewelry, and gourmet food as well as a variety of restaurants.

The Home Depot and Staples recently opened in phase II of Hickory Creek Market Place, with additional stores and restaurants planned for 2006 to complete the center.

An open-air traditional town center shopping environment along Route 30, also known as a “Lifestyle Center,” continues to be thoroughly researched and planned. Frankfort is once again seeking a unique development to enhance its unique community.

Through a cooperative effort with commercial developers and citizens, as well as careful planning and leadership by Village officials, Frankfort continues to enjoy a healthy economic boom.
