The availability of high quality, affordable healthcare is an important feature in any community. Fortunately, Frankfort is served by several award-winning healthcare systems located within a short distance of the community. Family practice at the long-standing Hedges Clinic, women’s health at Partners In Obstetrics & Women’s Health and a wealth of physicians specializing in such fields as endocrinology, occupational medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, pain management, chiropractic, dentistry, physical therapy and more add to the medical landscape of the Frankfort area.

Advocate Health Care, a leading integrated healthcare system serving the Chicagoland area, not only directs the renowned Advocate Christ Medical Center, but it also operates an Advocate Health Center facility in Frankfort. The modern community-based group practice is staffed with doctors specializing in family practice medicine. Special on-site services include laboratory and x-ray capabilities.

Also managing a community health facility in the area is Palos Community Hospital. PCH’s Primary Care Center, located in neighboring Orland Park, houses the system’s Immediate Care Center and provides a long list of outpatient services. Among these services are laboratory and radiology diagnostic services, cardiac rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy, weight management programs, chemical dependency and psychiatric treatment and nutrition and diabetes counseling.

For more than a century, Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet has been serving communities in Will, Grundy and southwestern Cook counties—including Frankfort. The 304-bed, acute-care hospital is well equipped with a knowledgeable and dedicated team of 2,500 physicians, employees and volunteers. The list of programs and services is exhaustive at the hospital, with centers of excellence including the LaVerne and Dorothy Brown Cardiovascular Institute, Evon D. and Jack H. Keck Emergency Pavilion, Birthing Center, Wound Healing & Treatment Center, Continence Rehabilitation Center and Physical Rehab and Performance Center. Prominent programs accessed through the facility include the Women’s HeartAdvantage Program, MedWorks Occupational Health Program and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program—among others.

Silver Cross Hospital, a Solucient 100 Top Hospitals National Award winner, has embarked upon a $400 million replacement hospital project, to be located just three miles from the current campus in neighboring New Lenox. Opening in 2012, the 289-bed hospital will boast all private patient rooms, advanced medical technology and services, as well as improved programs and an enhanced partnership with Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Also located in Joliet is the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, a facility that has been recognized among the Top 5% of Hospitals Nationwide for Clinical Excellence (HealthGrades). The 475-bed medical center houses the Saint Joseph Heart Center—offering the area’s only open-heart surgery program—the Sister Theresa Cancer Care Center, a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center, the Sleep Disorders Center and both Neonatal and Pediatric ICUs. Notably, through a partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago, Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center is the sole regional provider of neurosurgical services.

Since June of 2005, the hospital has been experiencing a major renovation and construction project. In addition to upgrades within the current medical center is a new eight-story patient tower. Opened in March of 2009, the 256,000 square foot addition features 199 private patient suites, a 350-seat conference center, a floor dedicated to the hospital’s neuroscience program with a six-bed neuro ICU and more.

Transforming from a 50-bed facility into a renowned two-campus healthcare system, St. James Hospital and Health Centers is an integral part of the region’s medical community. St. James operates hospitals in Olympia Fields and Chicago Heights, boasting the presence of such highly recognized programs as the Heart and Vascular Institute and the Patricia A. Joyce Comprehensive Cancer Institute—an approved Teaching Hospital Cancer Program. Further distinguished services afforded to patients include the Center for Bariatric Surgery, the Health and Wellness Institute, Center for Diabetes, Occupational and Environmental Health Centers, Center for Rehabilitative Medicine, Surgery Center, Joint Center and the Center for Comprehensive Wound and Disease Management.
