A solid financial foundation and responsive leadership are hallmarks of the Village of Frankfort government. A Village President and six-member Board of Trustees govern the Village. A professional village administrator, with staff, manages the day to day operations of the Village.
Frankfort Village Board meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in council chambers above the old police station at 130 Kansas Street. The public is invited to all regular and specially scheduled meetings and may introduce items not on the agenda.
Community committees, chaired by a Village Board Trustee, discuss issues facing the growing community. These committees allow citizens of Frankfort the opportunity to have a stronger voice in Village government and administration.
Village leaders recognize the importance of technology as a communication tool, particularly in a growing community like Frankfort. Keeping this in mind, all Village board meetings are broadcast live on Frankfort’s own cable television channel 6. In addition, a redesigned Frankfort Village website, www.villageoffrankfort.com offers comprehensive information about the community and its activities as well as access to various governmental information in a user friendly format. The Village also publishes an information-packed quarterly newsletter, “The Frankfort Villager” which informs residents about issues, policies, updates, events, ongoing community and infrastructure projects and operations pertaining to Village government.
The public works and utility departments of the Village maintain a safe and efficient environment for all residents on the 104 miles of streets and 143 miles of water mains. In addition, building and zoning, engineering, community development, finance and administration work together to ensure that operations in Frankfort continue smoothly and effectively.
To maintain the high quality of life and low crime rate in the Village, the police department incorporates a comprehensive, pro-active approach to delivering police services. The Village opened a new modern police facility in September, 2003 to house the current 30 full-time officers and four part-time officers. This new station for department personnel boasts all of the modern amenities in an expanded location. Police department divisions include Patrol, Investigations and Community Services, which include Crime Prevention, Traffic and Community Policing.
Three fire protection stations with 45 firefighters and officers, serve Frankfort and its residents. Emergency medical service personnel are available for community emergencies.
