Geneseo schools have a reputation for excellence, offering daycare and preschool facilities, a special education cooperative, four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school for a total enrollment of more than 2,900 students.

The community's emphasis on quality education is evidenced by the number of graduating seniors, whose scores are higher than the state average on ACT tests.

To supplement the level of excellence found in Geneseo schools, a group of citizens founded the Geneseo Endowment for Excellence in Education. GEEE funds special projects above and beyond normal school district activities, projects that enhance educational opportunities for area young people.

Geneseo schools are also well known for their music and athletic programs. The "Green Machine" appears frequently in the state record books for Illinois High School football and has held the state record for consecutive victories. Choir and band programs are among the finest in the state.

Graduating seniors do not have to venture far from home to find a broad array of higher education opportunities. Located within 35 miles of Geneseo are five trade and technical schools, three junior colleges and five colleges and universities.
