Shopping and Dining

Shopping

One of the best shopping experiences in Chicagoland can be found in Geneva. Choices are infinite, from the specialty shops of historic downtown to the major retailers scattered throughout the area.

More than 100 specialty shops reside in the downtown district, housed in historic commercial buildings and picturesque Victorian homes. Nestled in these beautiful buildings are high-class fashions, imported fabrics, exquisite jewels, European antiques, original works of art and so much more.

Built in 2002, Geneva Commons is an upscale, outdoor shopping extravaganza with more than 60 stores. Everything from gifts, books, jewelry, home décor, apparel, shoes, athletic equipment, beauty items and music can be found on the walkways of the Commons. For a quick bite or a sit-down meal, several restaurants and sandwich shops can satiate any hungry shopper.

The Randall Road Corridor between Bricher Road and Fayban Parkway is home to many major retailers offering everything from home improvement supplies and sporting goods to clothing and beauty needs.

The first weekend of every month, the Kane County Fairgrounds play host to the Kane County Flea Market. Crafts and collectibles, antiques, home and yard décor and handmade wooden furniture are just some of the treasures patrons can hope to stumble upon. Weather doesn’t have a bearing on this monthly event.

Dining
After a grueling day of shopping, sightseeing or traveling, the dining scene in Geneva will hit the spot! Many of the restaurants in the area have been around for years; the oldest is the Mill Race Inn, established in 1933. Recently recognized in the May/June 2006 issue of West Suburban Living as “one of the best outdoor ambiance restaurants,” Mill Race Inn provides beautiful views overlooking the Fox River. Diners can choose from five different dining experiences with varied menus and atmospheres.

Dining

The flavors of Italy, Mexico, and the Mediterranean are aplenty in Geneva, being featured in quaint bistros, festive cantinas and exquisite ristorantes. American fare is also available at many establishments, and old favorites like pizza, subs and buffalo wings are not hard to come by. Beautiful banquet halls are available at many eateries in the area for weddings, family reunions, corporate gatherings and other large parties.

History is not lost on the restaurant scene in this city; many are located in historic homes and buildings, adding to the ambiance of the dining experience.

Whether it’s a quick lunch at sidewalk café or a night out on the town with fine cuisine and entertainment, no one leaves hungry.
