This safe, close-knit community works continually to make Geneva an even better place to live with involvement in city government and other community projects. To maintain the city’s strong push towards growth while maintaining a sense of history, citizens take great pride in participating in local government.
Geneva’s government consists of a mayor and 10 aldermen from five different wards. This mayor-council form of government meets regularly each month to discuss matters of business and policy concerning the city.
Founded in 1895, the Geneva Fire Department now has over 50 members. The department operates out of two stations, one rather new. Opened in January 2004, this 20,000 square-foot facility is located at 200 East Side Drive. This station is equipped with spacious meeting, training and administrative areas with living quarters and a weight room. Education on fire safety is part of the department’s mission. Youth programs include preschool tours, elementary school visits, in-class Life Safety Education programs in Grades K - 3, and the Juvenile Firesetters Program. Other programs include home fire safety for senior citizens, home and business safety inspections, and CPR training classes.
Safety and prevention are the top priorities of the Geneva Police Department. With more than 35 sworn officers, the department has different patrols such as a bicycle patrol, a foot patrol in the downtown area and Randall Road Retail Corridor and designated neighborhood patrol. Detectives, community and patrol officers play a vital role. Both the high school and middle school have a liaison officer to ensure safety. To impart knowledge to students many programs are available - the S.S. Raiders, Snowball Program, risk watch, Project ALERT drug prevention, driver education, government class and more.
The Police Department also provides programs and educational services for the rest of the community, including child safety seat inspection, bicycle registration, Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers, senior care, neighborhood watch and the child identification program, just to name a few.
