The Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department strives to provide only the best in recreational opportunities for the residents of Glendale Heights.

The Village oversees more than 20 park sites and facilities of all sizes, equipped with a variety of attributes all ages can enjoy. Notable areas include the 64-acre Camera Park, featuring playground equipment, basketball courts, athletic fields, a two-mile exercise path, an ice rink, the Tommy Saltzmann, Jr. Skate Park and a picnic shelter; the award-winning Veterans Memorial Park, which was constructed to honor those men and women who have heroically fought for our country through the years; and the extensive Sports Hub.

The Sports Hub is a major recreational site utilized by area residents. Spanning more than 11 acres, the Sports Hub features four tennis courts, two volleyball courts, an outdoor basketball court, two bocce courts, playground equipment, an outdoor Aquatic Park and a recreational center. The recreational center houses four preschool rooms; three gymnasiums; two multiuse studios; an indoor soccer arena; a newly updated, 2,700-square-foot fitness center; a meeting room; and a teen room.

Golfers of all skill levels are offered a challenge at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club. The 18-hole championship course, designed by Dick Nugent, stretches more than 6,143 yards and boasts excellent playing conditions. The highly manicured course features bent grass tees, fairways and greens, as well as water hazards and bunkers that test the skills of even the most advanced golfers. Golf outing packages and special events are available, as are options for dining and banquets for up to 250 guests.

On top of these outstanding facilities, the Village’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department offers a full range of recreational programming and events. Family programs, dance, adult athletic leagues, martial arts, health and fitness, senior services, youth sports, and preschool programs are among the many options for leisure activities through the department. The Village has also partnered with the Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA) to provide recreational and social opportunities to those individuals with disabilities.

Also serving the Glendale Heights community with excellent leisure programming for all ages is the B.R. Ryall YMCA in nearby Glen Ellyn. More than 130 programs are available through the organization, including aquatics, fitness, sports, summer camps, arts and humanities, and much more.

Adding to all this is the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s 489-acre East Branch Forest Preserve, which outlines the eastern border of Glendale Heights. The main entrance is located on Glen Ellyn Road, just one-quarter mile south of Army Trail Road and two miles north of North Avenue. Outdoor activities include fishing in the nine-acre Rush Lake and the five-acre Sunfish Pond, enjoying the off-leash dog area, picnicking, and using the two-mile trail.
