With a current population of approximately 29,000 and a projected population of a little over 34,500 by the year 2010, the Village of Glendale Heights is dedicated to maintaining its small-town atmosphere while offering its residents numerous superior community amenities, some not even found in more affluent, established communities. The Village is a relatively young community incorporated in 1959, and in recent years has issued 16 million dollars in bonds to fund major improvements. Parks and Recreation built a first class development including a water park, pool and a new stadium. Public Services built a new administrative building and garage and the Police Department expansion and renovation is underway. Industrial park growth has been rapid, with new eye appealing structures and economic strength for the community. The Village President and Board of Trustees believe that these projects are a positive investment in the future, and a window for the Village to continue its progress to provide quality services well into the 21st century. However, one of the most appealing qualities for which people choose to live here is the people. It is a community where neighbors care about neighbors and where "quality of life" is created by the dedication of its citizens. The Village will continue to live up to its motto "A Proud and Progressive Village for All People".
The Glendale Heights Chamber of Commerce, along with the Village of Glendale Heights, is proud to present to you this community map. We hope you will refer to it often as a valuable resource of information about the Village. The advertisements on this map represent Glendale Heights Chamber members and local businesses. It is their support that made this map possible. We hope you will support their businesses by using their products and services. Our Chamber has over 100 members and is steadily growing each year. Chamber membership offers many benefits, among them are monthly membership luncheons that feature informative business speakers. These luncheons also provide members an opportunity to network with other businesses in the area, building business by building relationships. Members receive a monthly newsletter, The Chamber Bulletin Board, updating them on current information about the Chamber and offering advertising opportunities. Chamber members can showcase their businesses each year at The Five Star Business Expo sponsored by five local Chambers of Commerce - Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream and Roselle. We also enjoy a wonderful golf outing each summer. Our Chamber supports education. Members work together to provide scholarships for local high school students who reside in Glendale Heights. Due to the generosity of our Chamber members, we were able to award five, class of 1998 graduating seniors scholarships to further their education. Progressive thinking and business acumen are also what prompted the Village Board to purchase prime, centrally located property for a Village-owned public golf course when the opportunity arose unexpectedly. Opened in 1987, the well-known Glendale Lakes Golf Course is an 18-hole course designed by Dick Nugent, renowned for his design of Kemper Lakes Golf Club Of Illinois, Forest Preserve National and Seven Bridges. It has been written up in Golf Digest as one of the more challenging public golf courses in Illinois. While the course is not overly long (6,143 yards) by modern standards, it is designed with the fairway "Target Golf" concept with its layout, and water touching nine holes. Because of its unique character, it is both fun and challenging for all levels of players young and old. The course is surrounded by single-family homes, apartments and condominiums and is a revenue-generating operation for the community. The course has matured beautifully since it opened in 1987. Lush bent grass tees, fairways and greens are all manicured to professional standards through the management of Meadowbrook Golf Management in Lombard, one of the most highly regarded golf course management companies in the nation. Glendale Lakes also has a clubhouse facility featuring a fully stocked pro shop, beautiful banquet/meeting facilities to accommodate from 30 to 250, restaurant, full service bar and locker rooms.
Another feature that makes Glendale Heights a desirable location is its easy access to six interstate highways in the Chicago metropolitan area. Four primary roadways pass through the Village: Army Trail Road and North Avenue going east-west, and Glen Ellyn and Bloomingdale Roads running north-south. An interchange of the State Route 53/290 expressway, which provides access to Chicago and the Woodfield and O'Hare areas, is just over 1/2-mile from the Village. The new I-355 now provides a second interchange serving the Village at North Avenue. This new tollway links the Village with the East-West Tollway office and high-tech corridor, Chicago's southwest suburbs and downstate Illinois. The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Chicago & Northwestern train services are only minutes away in nearby Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Roselle. Frequent RTA Pace buses carry commuters to these stations during rush hours. And, all of the major motor freight carriers serving the Chicago area serve the businesses and industries of Glendale Heights.
With its location and proximity to expressways and major arterial roadways, Village residents have access to many shopping areas. Most are concentrated in the northwest and southwest corners of the community to serve residents of neighboring towns as well. Stratford Square, a 1.1 million square foot regional mall with six department stores, is just five minutes away. Woodfield, one of the largest malls in the nation and now a major corporate office center, is just ten minutes away on the expressway. In addition, many small convenience shopping centers are scattered throughout the Village, serving virtually every neighborhood.
Among its advantages Glendale Heights offers a wide variety of affordable single-family housing, spanning the spectrum of cozy ranch homes, raised-ranches, split level and large two-story styles. Single-family homes range in price from about $89,500 on up to $250,000.
Townhouses, duplexes and other types of attached single family housing range from $60,000 to $141,500. Several attractive apartment communities in the Village include beautiful on-site clubhouses, swimming pools and sundecks, enclosed garage parking and both indoor and outdoor sports activities. One, two or three bedroom units rent from $450 to $1,350 a month. |
