Commercial & Industrial

Commercial growth in the Village has been concentrated at three key intersections: North Avenue and Bloomingdale Road; North Avenue and Glen Ellyn Road; and Bloomingdale Road at Army Trail Road. The Village is now looking toward I-355 along North Avenue Corridor as the key asset in future retail development. To that end, the Village has proactively encouraged commercial development along the entire length of these arterial corridors. The Village has recently established its first Tax Increment Financing District on North Avenue. In addition, other incentives have drawn interest in development of the corridor. The Village's Economic Development Commission is charged with the task of promoting and encouraging optimum development in these critical areas, which will not only be beneficial to our existing retailers, but also add to the Village's tax base.

The Village has its own commercial area and several industrial parks, plus undeveloped acreage suitable for industrial or business park development, (together totaling about 400 acres). The industrial parks are located near the industrial concentrations in neighboring Carol Stream and Addison, yet away from the traffic congestion that has become a problem in heavily industrialized communities. An office park and several individual office buildings also serve the needs of business in Glendale Heights.

Thoughtful, innovative design of industrial/office parks creates an attractive corporate environment suitable for office, research, warehouse, distribution and light manufacturing. Restrictive covenants are in place at each park to insure perpetual maintenance of common areas and control architectural design and planning of each building to maintain a high-quality image that many corporations look for when relocating.

Unlike many communities in DuPage County that have areas simply planned for industrial growth, Glendale Heights has over 400 acres of industrial parks in place with an infrastructure system that is fully improved and available to serve them. Industrial growth serves to strengthen the tax base in the Village while at the same time providing many job opportunities for our residents. Glendale Heights will continue to strive to maintain an environment conducive to industrial users to attract them to the Village.
