If you long to commune with nature, take a bike hike, play a round of golf, or simply bat a ball around, you won’t have to travel far. With Lake Ellyn–the Village’s aquatic jewel–as its recreational centerpiece, Glen Ellyn offers a wealth of outdoor fun. The Glen Ellyn Park District maintains 28 parks situated on over 300 acres of land and sponsors hundreds of classes and sports programs. At 25-acre Lake Ellyn Park there’s fishing, clay tennis courts, walking and jogging paths, playground, and a host of year-round special events. Eight-acre Sunset Park is home to a water park and pool, ball fields, and playground. Four nearby DuPage County Forest Preserves welcome picnics, fishing, bird watching, cross-country skiing, nature hikes, and wildlife-viewing. Cyclists take a spin along the 45-mile Illinois Prairie Path running through town on the south side of the Union Pacific tracks. Duffers find putting and driving action at Village Links, operated by the Glen Ellyn Recreation Commission, and at the beautifully landscaped, privately owned Glen Oak Country Club. Open to the public, Village Links boasts an 18-hole championship course, a nine-hole course, and a 23-tee driving range.
