Beyond the Basics
The communities that make up the Greater O’Hare area provide a top quality education for all students, resulting in a highly educated workforce and excellent opportunities for employees to find good schools for their children.
Many of the schools have won state and national awards for excellence. The area boasts more than its share of National Merit Scholars, marching band championships and winning athletic teams.
More than 20 elementary school districts and 12 high school districts serve the area, each governed by its own local board of education. In a few communities, grade and high schools are in the same district.
Each community also offers a choice of private schools, including Montessori schools, a Japanese school for children of employees who plan to return to Japan, and schools with a religious orientation. Licensed childcare centers are available for working parents, and many public and private schools have before- and after-school programs. Nursery school programs are abundant.
For students who will enter the workforce or go on to advanced technical training after graduation, the area’s high schools provide a comprehensive array of vocational education.
