Serving the People
Each of the communities in the Greater O’Hare region has its own independent government, most often structured as a village with an elected village president, a professional village manager and an elected board of trustees. A few communities are cities with elected mayors and city councils. Citizen participation is encouraged through appointed boards and commissions.
Full-time police and fire departments provide excellent service to their communities. Ambulances have fully trained emergency medical technicians, and are in constant contact with doctors and nurses in hospital emergency rooms. Nearly every community has 911 service.
Park districts, library districts, townships and school districts are separate governmental bodies, each with its own taxing authority and elected officials. Citizens can vote by referendum on taxation and policy issues.
