Education is a cornerstone in the vitality of Hoffman Estates, and has been since the Village’s earliest days. The community is quite fortunate to be served by some of Illinois’ largest, top-tier public school districts, along with ample opportunities for continuing education through several esteemed colleges and universities.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION

Community Consolidated School District 15 Recognized as the third-largest elementary school district in the state, Community CCSD 15 has grown immensely since its birth in March 1946. Today, CCSD 15 serves all or part of seven communities in the northwest suburbs, including Hoffman Estates. Of the district’s 20 schools, two are located within the Village—Thomas Jefferson School and Frank C. Whiteley School.
Thomas Jefferson School opened its doors for the first day of school on January 4, 1977, while Frank C. Whiteley School opened August 30, 1989. Both schools, which have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, were built in order to meet the needs of the district’s growing western boundary. Thomas Jefferson experienced renovation and expansion in 1994. Today, Thomas Jefferson serves a student population of 630, with Frank C. Whiteley serving approximately 600.
School District 54 School District 54 is also one of the state’s largest educational entities, enrolling approximately 14,000 students in 27 schools located in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and three neighboring communities. Several schools operated by District 54 provide exemplary education to students in Hoffman Estates, including Neil Armstrong Elementary School (a Blue Ribbon school), Lakeview Elementary School, Fairview Elementary School, MacArthur Elementary School, Winston Churchill Elementary School, Eisenhower Jr. High School, Lincoln Prairie School and the John Muir Literacy Academy.

School District U-46 With more than 41,000 students enrolled within one of 40 elementary schools, eight middle schools and five high schools, School District U-46 stands as Illinois’ second largest school district. Hoffman Estates is one of nearly a dozen communities served by U-46. Located in the community, Timber Trails Elementary School, recently built in 2004, currently enrolls more than 460 students, while Lincoln Elementary School provides educational opportunities to well over 600.
Township High School District 211 Township High School District 211 has grown to become the largest high school district in Illinois with nearly 13,000 students enrolled within five facilities. Since its beginnings more than 130 years ago, District 211 has come to be known as one of the leading high school districts in the nation, earning this recognition four times by Expansion Magazine. Each high school in District 211 stands as Blue Ribbon-recognized schools as well.
Hoffman Estates students enroll in one of three area high schools. James B. Conant was the third high school in District 211 to be built (following Palatine High School and William Fremd High School), opening as Schaumburg Township’s first three-year school. Schaumburg High School followed in September 1970, with Hoffman Estates High School opening in 1973 as a freshman-sophomore school. Today, all standing as four-year high schools, Conant High School has an enrollment of 2,464, Schaumburg High School with 2,531 and Hoffman Estates with 2,138 students.
Schaumburg High School has been listed among the top five percent of schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine (2005 and 2006), while Palatine, Fremd and Schaumburg High Schools have earned recognition among the nation’s “Top 99 High Schools” by U.S. News and World Report as well. Schaumburg, Conant and Hoffman Estates High Schools have been a part of a $37.1 million major expansion project, which was completed at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.
