Dear Hoffman Estates Community Member,

2008 was a difficult year from an economic standpoint. Some companies were forced to close their doors, and unemployment increased across the country. Hoffman Estates, however, has managed to persevere through these tough times. While we reflect on the past 50 years of our Village’s incorporation, we are reminded of the hardships faced by the pioneers that founded this community – the businesses that struggled to survive in an inhospitable, rural environment. Looking through old snapshots of community gatherings and speaking with businesses that have been here since the beginning reminds me that during those difficult times, this community pulled together.
Let 2009 be the year that you resolve to reinvest in your community. The money you spend in the Village of Hoffman Estates helps support the local economy. Twenty percent of the sales tax paid by customers in Hoffman Estates comes back to the Village to help pay for public services such as snow plowing, branch pickup and police and fire service. Two cents of every dollar you spend in Hoffman Estates is guaranteed to stay in your community, thereby reducing your own property taxes. While our budgets may be streamlined, there are still necessities we all shop for. Please consider spending those dollars here in Hoffman Estates.

Ninety-one percent of small business owners contribute to their community through sponsorship of special events and programs that benefit our park district, schools, sports teams and charitable organizations. Now it’s our turn to give back by supporting local businesses by bringing our spending back to the Village.
The Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce has undergone a strategic realignment of its mission to ensure that they are supporting and answering the needs of our business community in today’s tumultuous economy. Your Chamber membership is a partnership that requires your participation. Events and networking opportunities are provided monthly to help you find that next lead, customer or referral. The Chamber of Commerce recently surveyed the needs of its membership to develop a leadership series designed to help you overcome whatever obstacle stands in the way of your success. I encourage you to come out and attend a Chamber function – they exist to support your efforts.

The founders of this community were no strangers to hard work. As I travel through this great Village meeting with business owners and residents alike, I am reminded that this proud legacy lives on.
Let’s make 2009 a year to be remembered for unparalleled economic recovery. With your support, things can be “fine in 2009!”
Yours in commitment to the community,
William D. McLeod
Mayor
