Homer Township is governed by an elected Supervisor and a Board of four Trustees. Township residents also elect a Clerk, Highway Commissioner, and Assessor.
In addition, Homer Township has a Planning Commission, Senior Citizen Committee, Water Committee, Youth Committee, Open Space Committee, and an Economic Development Committee, and maintains several parks and recreational areas in the community.
Two fire departments, the Homer Township Fire Protection District (covering the area south of 147th Street to 183rd Street) and Northwest Fire Protection District (covering 11 square miles within township boundaries) provide emergency fire protection and rescue, paramedic and ambulance, fire prevention and inspection, and public education services and programs.
Police protection is provided by the Will County Sheriffs Department, which maintains a substation in the Homer Township Administration Center. Officers and administrative staff work together with residents and business owners to ensure public safety and maintain the Townships low crime rate, through such programs as Neighborhood Watch.
