The Homers Stallions started the 1985 season as a member of the Kankakee Valley Football League with four cheerleader and football teams. We held our practice and games behind the Homer Junior High. In 1999, we constructed the west football field at the Homer Sports Complex and, a couple of years later, added the east field.
The Homer Stallions, now a member of the Southwest Midget Football League, have almost 200 cheerleaders and almost 500 football players, 11 tackle football teams, plus flag football teams and cheerleading for those 5-7 years of age. Through the time and dedication of our volunteer coaches, we teach the fundamentals of football and cheerleading as well as sportsmanship and community pride. Many of our players go on to play football or cheer in high school and college.
More recently, we have expanded the Homer Stallions to include arena football and lacrosse. These new programs have been very well received in the community.
We are a parent-run organization and our reward for all the volunteer hours we put in are the smiles on the children’s faces. If you would like to become more involved or would like to become a sponsor, please attend our meetings held the third Thursday of every month at the Old Town Hall.
