About 4,000 students currently attend Lockport Township High School District 205, which serves families from the communities of Homer Glen, Lockport and Crest Hill, as well as Lockport and Homer townships. The district spans about 65 miles, making it one of the largest high school districts in Illinois.
For the past four years, LTHS District 205 has been named as one of Newsweek magazine’s “Top 6% of High Schools” in the nation. The district consistently has outranked most Illinois school districts, including magnet schools that draw from a large student population not limited to residential boundaries.
This year, 138 LTHS students from the class of 2010 and 2011 were honored for their successful performance in the Advanced Placement Program, and 112 LTHS students from the class of 2011 were named Illinois State Scholars.
Also in 2011, District 205 athletes were named Regional Champions in boys basketball, wrestling, softball, girls cross-country and boys golf; Sectional Champions in badminton and girls tennis; a second-place finish at the IHSA State Cheerleading Competition; and a second-place finish at sectionals and 13th-place finish in the IHSA State Girls Cross Country Competition.
In 1995, the district opened its Community Wellness Center, which features a lap pool, weight room, open gym, indoor track, fitness center and more. Community residents are encouraged to join the CWC to enjoy all its amenities, including access to fitness classes, personal trainers, and summer camps and programs for youths. The CWC also offers opportunities for rentals for private parties or community meetings.

District 205 also established a nonprofit group in 1999 to help community families. The Lockport Township High School Foundation supports and promotes the educational programs and activities of the students and staff of LTHS. Over the years, community volunteers have helped lead the LTHS Foundation by donating their time, energy and financial support to its efforts to acquire material, services and educational opportunities beyond those allotted by the school budget.
Since its inception, the LTHS Foundation has facilitated the awarding of more than $970,000 in scholarships to students and has donated tens of thousands of dollars in grants to deserving students, faculty and programs at LTHS.
