graphicThe Village of Glenwood, a primarily residential community, covers approximately four and one-half square miles. Glenwood is surrounded by beautiful forest preserves and Old Glenwood, which includes Main Street and the Village Hall. Many of the buildings constructed in the 1800s are still an integral part of the Glenwood Main Street today, such as Gabe’s Restaurant, which was the location of Jurgensen’s General Store back in 1910. The Glenwood School, founded in 1887 by Todd Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln, is still in existence today. graphic

Village officials hope to increase the prosperity of Main Street with the development of a Metra Commuter Rail station, and are encouraging economic development. The purchase of Glenwoodie Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course along with acreage for development along Glenwood Dyer Road, and the construction of a new Village Hall are only the beginning of the plans for the future.

Glenwood students enjoy top-notch educational facilities. The Glenwood area is renowned for its outstanding school districts, where parents, teachers and administration work together to realize the potential of all students and foster a lifetime love of learning. Glenwood students are served by Elementary School Districts #167 (Brookwood), #153 (Homewood-Flossmoor), and by High School Districts #206 (Bloom Township) and #233 (Homewood-Flossmoor). Glenwood is also served by one parochial school, one private school and one private school for boys. graphic

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and the Cook County Forest Preserve District serve the recreational needs of Glenwood residents. The Park District owns and operates five park sites, and two nature preserve areas that are located in the Village. The Village is bordered on three sides by Cook County Forest Preserve land. graphic

Learning is always fun at the Glenwood-Lynwood Library District. Browse through a collection of about 30,000 volumes, or take advantage of its large audio/video collection or computer equipment available for public use. A variety of special clubs, activities and events offer Glenwood residents plenty of opportunities to be involved in its cultural and educational community.

Residents of Glenwood can rely on a number of excellent medical centers when it comes to finding high quality, dependable healthcare. Medical services are provided by four hospitals in close proximity to the Village: St. James in Chicago Heights, South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Ingall's Memorial Hospital in Harvey, and Osteopathic Medical Center in Olympia Fields. Other professional care providers include a number of dentists, ophthalmologists and chiropractors.
