graphicIn the 1930s, Huntley’s industry consisted of three milk factories, a grist mill, lumber yard, farm implement, and the usual village stores; today the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce has in excess of 230 members. In the ‘20s, the Elgin Belvidere Electric Railroad passed through town. In the ‘30s the railroad went out of business, having been replaced by automobiles and the development of hard surface roads. Today, Huntley is served by a local airport within 10 miles, O’Hare International Airport within 30 miles and Metra Train system within 10 miles. Huntley’s strategic proximity to to Interstate 90, halfway between Rockford and Chicago, makes the Village a logical choice of developers. In 1999 the estimated population of Huntley grew from approximately 2,200 people to more than 6,500 by year’s end.
