The range of living options offers exciting
variation in Hyde Park. From yesterdays stately mansions, "many
of them restored to blend todays comforts with that charming historic
appearance," to contemporary lofts, townhomes and apartments, the
housing market here remains a vibrant niche. Developers are finding ways
to bring new single-family home construction on line as well. According to area Realtors, home prices range affordably from $100,000 to nearly $3 million for large estate properties. Families seeking three bedrooms, two baths between $100,000 and $300,000 have as many as 40 properties at any given time to choose from. A 4,700-square-foot seven-bedroom, three-bathroom home sells for under $900,000. A few select properties join millionaires row. Such diversity has earned us nicknames like "Hot Hyde Park" in the press. And because housing values in Hyde Park have increased at rates much higher than the average for Chicago, residential real estate remains a profitable investment; a benefit not many homeowners can claim these days.
