David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art, The Renaissance Society and Museum,
and the Oriental Institute on the University of Chicago campus and the
Court Theater. The Hyde Park Art Center brings art to the public level,
inviting participants to try their own hand at pottery, painting and photography
in addition to the artists own exhibitions. Sounds of international chamber and classical music float from the University of Chicagos South Woodlawn address as well. A recent season featured melodies from the Czech Republic, Holland, Croatia, France, Germany, Morocco, London, Italy and Austria. As one of the areas to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and one of Frank Lloyd Wrights stomping grounds, Hyde Park is an important ground for architectural styles as well. Rockefeller Memorial Chapel and the Robie Houses Prairie Style lines are always on enthusiasts must-see lists.
