The city of Joliet has become a very popular place to live. Known for being both affordable and accessible, this area is a terrific location for those who want to be close to many amenities without paying exorbitant amounts for their homes. Its rich history, combined with more recent developments, makes for an interesting city that pays homage to its roots while still embracing the future.

Variety is the spice of life they say, and Joliet has that covered when it comes to housing. The two-story home is seen fairly often, but also available are ranch, split-level and tri-level homes, as well as condominiums and town homes. Multi-family dwellings are also included in the mix. In recent years, the city has had more than 50 new subdivisions go up in the area along I-55, and the housing market in the area has continued to be strong.

Bonnie McElroy is a Realtor® for Karges Real Estate and she says, “One of the great things about the Joliet real estate market is that there is such a wide variety of homes available for purchase. Every buyer is sure to find the home that meets their needs, vision, and is in their price range.” She emphasizes, “Joliet has it all; from the less expensive one-bedroom condo to the private wooded estate.”

In terms of style, there is quite a range as well. One can see grand Victorian houses as well as more contemporary designs, depending on the area. The downtown section of the city has a historic district, which boasts many properties that have been around since the 1800s. As an older Illinois city, Joliet has its share of homes that have stood the test of time and have quite a bit of character. The fact that this area has had such growth has also meant a wide variety of newer homes as well. There really is something for everyone here.

Those searching for a true suburban lifestyle will find Joliet fits the picture. Amenities in the community include a variety of lovely parks, shopping, cultural opportunities and a great selection of restaurants. The city’s atmosphere is relaxed, and yet there is still plenty to do. Some of the newer subdivisions offer their residents perks such as tennis courts and pools—or on occasion, even a clubhouse. The accessibility to Chicago adds nearly limitless opportunities for cultural and entertainment venues.

Rosemary West is a Broker-Associate for RE/MAX Realty of Joliet, and both her and her husband, Roger, grew up there. Having sold real estate in the area for over 33 years, she knows that there are a variety of reasons that people move to the city and points out, “Many people are transferred to Joliet and the surrounding areas with their jobs. They come in from all parts of the world.”

The once small prairie town is now a bustling city of 145,000 residents and growing.”

The city of Joliet is a wonderful place to live, with plenty of housing options and amenities. The rapid growth in the area shows no signs of slowing down as the community continues to expand and evolve. Those who live in this city appreciate the value of affordable housing combined with accessibility to Chicago and a host of other resources. Because of this, Joliet has assured itself a place in Illinois as a vibrant and important residential community.
