Kane County Transportation and Location
Catering to a population of more than 500,000 residents, Kane County’s location allows for access to a number of attainable transportation options. The majority of the region is within reach of major roadways, which include Interstate 88 and Interstates 80 and 90 offering links to Interstates 290, 294 and 355. A host of state and U.S. highways and major local roads are also available to residents of the county.
For most communities in Kane County, air transportation from Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway International Airports are accessible within 60 miles. More than 94 million passengers pass through these airports annually, with over 76 million traveling through O’Hare and nearly 18 million through Midway. O’Hare is located on Interstate 90, while Midway is obtainable by Interstate 55. Local airports in the Kane County area include the Aurora Municipal Airport, offering direct access to Interstate 88, and the DuPage Airport, located just 27 miles west of downtown Chicago.
The county is served by four Metra train stations, providing rail travel to and from Chicago’s Union Station, as well as several communities in between. Aurora affords the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line at 233 North Broadway, while Elgin offers three stops on the Milwaukee District West Line. These locations include 109 West Chicago Street, 2025 Big Timber Road and 85 National Street.
The Pace bus service, Greyhound bus service and other local services are also available in most of the communities of the region.
