
A number of esteemed medical care facilities are positioned within Lake County’s boundaries, providing residents with a vast selection of health services and programs. With its beginnings as a small community hospital, Condell Medical Center in Libertyville has evolved immensely over the years, meeting the needs of Lake County’s continually growing population. Hailing as the area’s largest medical provider, the acute-care hospital affords a wide spectrum of services, including comprehensive cardiac care, neurosurgery, advanced cancer care, rehabilitation, and oncology among many other services. Condell also operates the highest amount of emergency trauma services in the county, having served approximately 53,000 emergency room patients in 2006. Condell also directs four Immediate Care Centers in the county, with locations in Buffalo Grove, Gurnee, Round Lake Beach and Vernon Hills.
The hospital’s main campus has recently received approval for two major expansions, placing Condell in standing for Level I Trauma status. In 2006, the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board permitted the building of a new, 68-bed, four-level medical/surgery tower and the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department.
Serving the medical needs of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, Vista Health has been a part of Lake County for more than 100 years. The system is comprised of two hospital campuses in Waukegan, Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West. Vista Medical Center East has been designated as a Five-Star Hospital by HealthGrades for GI services and Vista Medical Center West celebrated its opening of a new Stand-By Emergency Department/24-Hour Urgent Care Center on April 23, 2007.

Vista Health also operates several additional medical facilities in Gurnee and Lindenhurst: Vista MRI Center (locations in both Gurnee and Lindenhurst), the Vista Imaging Center (Gurnee), the Vista Physicians Medical Building (Gurnee), the Vista Surgery Center (Lindenhurst) and the Vista Work Power Center (Gurnee).
Additionally, Vista Health recently received the go-ahead to construct a new hospital in Lindenhurst in order to provide easier access to top-rate healthcare for northern Lake County. The modern three-level, 140-bed Vista Medical Center Lindenhurst will span more than 200,000 square feet and is slated for completion in summer of 2010.The 215-bed Lake Forest Hospital employs more than 1,600 professional staff members and about 550 physicians. The hospital receives approximately 7,900 admissions, 17,000 surgeries and 25,000 emergency room visits each year. Its selection of services and programs include cancer care, children’s health, heart and lung care, imaging, occupational health, and surgery, to name a few. Lake Forest Hospital is also the parent organization to the Lake Forest Health and Fitness Centers, located on the hospital’s campus in Lake Forest and in Lindenhurst; the Outpatient and Acute Care Center in Grayslake; and physician offices in Vernon Hills, Gurnee, Lindenhurst and Libertyville.
Situated in the southwest corner of Lake County in Barrington, Good Shepherd Hospital is a 189-bed facility made up of more than 600 physicians representing a number of medical specialties. An affiliate of the state’s largest healthcare system, Advocate Health Care, the hospital offers surgery services, a new 32,000-square foot emergency department supported by a Level II Trauma Center, a nationally recognized cancer program, a wealth of outpatient services and much more. On top of that, Good Shepherd recently received the 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from HealthGrades, placing the hospital among the top five percent of hospitals across the U.S. in terms of quality outcomes.
Established in 1918, Highland Park Hospital is a full-service, 239-bed medical center serving Lake County and its surrounding area. Part of revered Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, the hospital offers its patients a new Ambulatory Care Center and a renovated emergency room, on top of a full list of healthcare services.
Zion is the site of the respected Midwestern Regional Medical Center, staffed by more than 100 physicians specializing in a wide range of health care fields including oncology, emergency medicine, cardiology, family practice, orthopedics, surgery, podiatric medicine and much more. The hospital also houses the 24-hour Emergency Center, Intensive/Coronary Care Unit and the highly-regarded Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), providing traditional cancer treatments including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery.
