Gurnee is a quintessential community in Lake County, with nearly 30,000 residents and a host of diverse businesses.

The area’s first settlers came from Warren, New York, naming the area Warren Township. The quickly expanding village of Gurnee was incorporated 80 years ago in 1928. This friendly village is now the site of some of the area’s most popular attractions, a number of family-oriented events and a handful of dining establishments and accommodations.

Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor is one of the area’s top attractions, drawing in hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Also located in Gurnee is the Rink Side Family Entertainment Center, housing a regulation sized ice rink and a multitude of games, among other features.

Annual events not to be missed in Gurnee include the Fall Hunting Classic and Gurnee Days, an annual celebration held the second full weekend in August. Gurnee Days takes place in the Village Center and provides patrons with amusement rides, a golf tournament, various exhibits, food vendors, games, live entertainment and a lively parade.

Shopping excursions can be had a the 24,000-square foot Gurnee Antique Center, hailing as one of Chicagoland’s largest antique malls, and the widely popular Gurnee Mills outlet mall.

The Gurnee Park District serves the population with 23 parks stretching over 250 acres, along with a number of facilities, programs and services. Golfers have access to three well-manicured courses: the 18-hole Bittersweet Golf Course, the nine-hole HeatherRidge Golf Course and the Merit Club Golf Club.
