Whether it's in the quaint ambiance of the downtown areas or the delightful mix of shops along and near Waukegan Road, Lake Bluff and Lake Forest offer something for everyone.
The heart and soul of shopping in Lake Forest is the famed Market Square, the first planned shopping mall in the country when it was built in 1916. With 22 stores offering everything from clothing and jewelry to sporting goods and gifts, Market Square is the community center of Lake Forest.
In Lake Bluff, the charming central business district features food and specialty stores, while the Village Green hosts a very popular farmer's market every Friday from June through October as well as art and antique shows, summer concerts, and special events for all ages. Several large shopping centers are within a 15-30 minute drive.
The area also offers many options in dining, with bakeries and bistros, charming shops for sweets and unique food stores. For traditional dining, residents often turn to the Deer Path Inn while outdoor dining is popular at South Gate Cafe in Market Square, and The Lantern is the area's venerable watering hole. Another popular restaurant is Lovells of Lake Forest which features elegant dining and memorabilia from several of former astronaut Jim Lovell's missions, including Apollo 13.
