Location & Transportation

Lake Zurich’s location, just 37 miles northwest of the bustling City of Chicago, is perhaps one of its greatest assets. The village is nestled within the developing southwestern portion of Lake County, which provides its residents and local businesses peaceful suburban living in proximity to vital amenities such as top-rate schools, unmatched medical resources, an extensive array of retail centers and rich cultural avenues. Accessing these valuable village facets is made quick and efficient through the area’s well-established transportation infrastructure, which is characterized by excellent road, rail and air alternatives.

Immediate access to Chicago’s Loop and its encircling suburbs is effortless through the local thoroughfares that wind throughout the greater Lake Zurich community. Mainly, Rand Road (U.S. Highway 12) offers a route for north-south traffic, while Main Street (State Highway 22) runs east to west, connecting Lake Zurich and its neighbors to Interstate 294 (the Tri-State Tollway). Further arteries traversing the area, such as Interstates 90, 94 and 290, offer a convenient link to innumerable local, regional and national sites.

Fluctuating gas prices have led many commuters to take advantage of the area’s excellent public transit options. Access to a nearby Metra station in Barrington offers riders a great alternative to reaching Chicago and a handful of suburbs in between. The station is served by the Union Pacific Northwest line, which runs from Harvard to Chicago’s Ogilvie Transportation Center. A stop at Chicago’s Union Station, just down the street from Ogilvie, will bring those in need of regional and national rail transportation to the services of Amtrak. A dozen Amtrak lines run in and out of Chicago on a daily basis, affording transit to a host of U.S. terminuses.

General aviation endeavors, along with private and corporate flight availability, are found through a number of surrounding regional airports, including Wheeling’s Chicago Executive Airport (formerly Palwaukee Airport), Schaumburg Regional Airport and Waukegan Regional Airport. For air travelers in need of extensive commercial aviation services, whether it is to regional, national or international destinations, O’Hare International Airport can be reached in just over 30 miles from Lake Zurich, while Midway International Airport is located approximately 40 miles from the community.
