Residents and businesses are fortunate to be under the leadership of a stable, progressive governing body comprised of a Village President (or Mayor), a six-member Board of Trustees and a Village Clerk. Each position is elected at-large to four-year terms.

Lisle is a non-home rule community with a comprehensive land-use plan (revised in 1995), municipal zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations, which undergo updating on a regular basis.

The Village boasts of having one of the lowest crime rates in the Chicagoland area, thanks in large part to the Lisle Police Department. The department is currently made up of 45 sworn officers and 13 full-time civilian support personnel who serve the community through its modern facility located at 5040 Lincoln Avenue. Not only does the police department provide everyday public safety services, but it also offers residents community policing programs such as D.A.R.E., Neighborhood Watch and Citizens Police Academy, and a number of crime prevention tips for the home, personality safety and much more.

The Lisle-Woodbridge Fire Protection District serves Lisle and its residents through a separate entity from the Village. Five fire stations make up the District (three in Lisle, two in Woodbridge), which provides Fire Suppression and Rescue, Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service and Fire Protection Initiatives to all of Lisle, 80 percent of Woodbridge and parts of unincorporated DuPage County. The district is rated as an ISO Class 1 fire district and has earned the distinction of being the country’s highest rated fire district.
