Lockport is home to numerous places of worship, representing a diverse range of denominations. In 1834, the first church in the Lockport area conducted religious services in a log cabin; 10 years later, the first frame church was erected. In 1878, there were 10 churches in Lockport. Today, there are 134 Protestant churches, 24 Catholic churches and one synagogue, all located within 10 miles of the city. Lockport’s faith community has grown with the town, acting as a constant reminder of the strength and values inherent within. In addition to the many worship services available, residents can participate in a number of outreach and social ministry programs offered through their place of worship.
