"Helping You Enjoy Life"
The Rockford Park District’s mission is “helping you enjoy life” by providing a quality park and recreation system.
The Rockford Park District is considered one of the best park and recreation systems in the nation and has received national recognition status in several areas, including being named “Sportstown USA” for the state of Illinois by Sports Illustrated Magazine and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA).
The Rockford Park District is proud to contribute greatly to the quality of life residents enjoy with cultural and leisure pursuits offered year round.
The Rockford area is home to high quality and plentiful golf opportunities with some of the most affordable fees in the United States. We have soccer fields and sports facilities that are the envy of most mid-size cities. Recreation paths wind through the community for bicycling, running, pushing a stroller, or walking your dog. The Rockford Park District serves the community of Loves Park, and residents receive discounts on fees and admission charges because of contributing property taxes to the Park District.
Some of the recreational facilities located in Loves Park include the Carlson Ice Arena, which welcomes skaters of all abilities for figure skating, youth, and adult hockey teams, and has an indoor playground. Sand Park Family Aquatic Center is located on Riverside Blvd., and an outdoor tennis complex is adjacent to Harlem Junior High School.
The Carlson Boys & Girls Club, Harlem Community Center, plus PlayWorks Park with the fantastic outdoor skate board park, SkateWorks, also offer a variety of youth sports programs and other activities.
The newest recreational activity center is Sportscore Two, a 124-acre site developed in 2001. It’s a major tourism draw on weekends and provides local players home field advantage! On weekdays, local teams use the Sportscore complex for practice, training, and matches. On weekends, local clubs host tournaments so players can participate close to home. This recreation center hosts activities that include soccer, rugby, football, volleyball (hard court), golf, softball, basketball, in-line hockey, wiffle ball, dodge ball, ultimate Frisbee, adapted and wheelchair sports.
A community park with a playground, recreation path, and ball field is being developed in partnership with a new YMCA branch facility on the northern complex property.
