In 1909, John Henry Smale, a visiting seminarian from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a group of interested citizens, founded the Manhattan Public Library District. The first library started with a collection of one hundred donated books and a bookcase. The Manhattan Public Library Dist. is located at 240 Whitson St. in Manhattan. A diverse collection of books and magazines is available for all ages. An entire room is devoted to children’s reading materials. Several computer stations are available for on-line research.
