Located on North Avenue in Melrose Park, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital is a Level II trauma center. Its heart center offers open-heart surgery outcomes that are among the nation's best; cancer treatment is provided at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Care Center, next to the hospital; and it promotes fitness through the Gottlieb Health & Fitness Center, which was the Midwests first hospital-affiliated fitness center when it opened in 1985.
Originally a four-story building with 122 beds, the hospital today has 247 beds and about 1,200 employees, more than 300 physicians and dentists on staff, and about 200 volunteers.
Westlake Hospital, also in Melrose Park, is a 328-bed facility. Westlake offers comprehensive quality hospital care ranging from high-tech diagnostic procedures to specialized inpatient services such as the Center for Rehabilitation. Westlake also has the highest percentage of private rooms in the western suburbs. Both hospitals provide community education and physician referral services.
