Mendota is served by two school districts. Mendota Elementary District 289 has three elementary schools for grades K-8 with a combined enrollment of more than 1,300. Mendota Township High School District 280, with an enrollment of over 650 students, offers a wealth of opportunities in both academics and extracurricular activities. Mendota also offers pre-school enrichment and a parochial grade school as part of its educational opportunities. Many Mendota residents take advantage of Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, a short drive either north or south on I-39.
Graves-Hume Public Library is a state-of-the-art facility, offering more than 31,000 volumes of research and reading potential as well as access to video and audio recordings. Numerous children’s programs like the Summer Reading Club and Story Hours are also offered.
