A mayor-council form of government, a clerk-collector, city treasurer and city attorney serve Mendota’s 7,272 residents. Accountable and accessible government, positive planned growth and progress have been the earmarks of Mendota’s administration.
The Mendota Police Department has an 18-member police force, and maintains 24-hour patrol and eight dispatchers. Mendota police are involved in the community with programs like DARE, Crime Stoppers and an active Neighborhood Watch.
The Mendota Fire Department has a full fleet of top firefighting and rescue equipment, including three engines, one aerial tower, a heavy-duty rescue vehicle, and one rapid response vehicle.
An enhanced 911 emergency response system serves the community and provides rapid dispatch for police, fire and emergency services.
The Mendota Civic Center is a full-service facility situated on Lake Mendota. Meeting, conference and banquet rooms (seating 15 to 500) are available and used often by the entire Illinois Valley area.
Other city programs include the Mendota Business Park, CDAP Revolving Loan Fund, Tax Increment Financing, Enterprise Zone and an active Historic Preservation & Restoration Commission.
