Rock Island/Milan School District has a wonderful diverse population of 6,500 students housed in 12 elementary schools, two junior high schools, one high school and one junior/senior high alternative school. Nearly 500 students are enrolled in the early-age childhood program through the Head Start Program. All schools are climate-controlled.

The 2001 school calendar was modified to an early start date of August 7th, which allows a two week break between quarters and maintains an eight week summer vacation.
