Welcome to the Village of Mokena — a community of 16,171 residents that prides itself on its motto of “Planned Progress…Pleasant Living” and its success in preserving its unique small-town charm. Our extraordinary environment has been shaped through the years since the Village’s incorporation in 1880.
Mokena’s location at the crossroads of commerce and industry in the Chicagoland area offers many attributes and amenities to meet your needs - whether you are in business looking for a ready and able workforce and access to the interstate highway system and the global market, or are a parent concerned with good schools, a safe environment, and an abundance of activities for your children.
We are continually working to improve services to our residents and businesses. In 2003, roadwork at the I-80 interchange and 191st Street intersection at LaGrange Road was completed, and the Village began to use Lake Michigan water as its primary source. The Village has widened 191st Street from LaGrange Road to Wolf Road and embarked on an aggressive local road construction program. Last year, the Village issued $10 million in bonds, all supported by a one-half cent sales tax approved by voter referendum to finance the program.
Mokena continues to offer a variety of industrial sites and facilities to meet the demands of businesses looking to locate in the community. This past year, Mokena Industrial Park, LaGrange Ridge Business Park, Mokena Crossings, and Corporate Corridors continued to expand, the Olivieri Business Park was approved for construction, and Corporate Corridors North, Spring Lake Corporate Center, and Silo Creek Business Park were annexed into the Village. The Pipefitters Local 597 Training Facility is now complete next to I-80. The Village welcomes businesses to look at Mokena’s favorable location and its availability of land and facilities when considering a future business site.
Commercial businesses are also welcome in Mokena. As a Village, we continue to expand existing commercial locations and add new sites to our town. The Promenade recently finished construction on 191st Street, Mokena Mills is nearly complete in the downtown area, Old Mill Pond is underway at 187th Street and Wolf Road, and Mokena Corners is expanding westward along U.S. Route 30. On LaGrange Road, Mokena Towne Square has added new retail space, and plans for Rose Plaza of Mokena just south of LaPorte Road are on track. The Boulevard and The Falls at Hickory Creek have both been approved for construction along 191st Street.
Mokena offers a wide variety of housing styles to meet the demands of families looking for a community that can offer a solid education system, a variety of recreational facilities and a wholesome atmosphere in which to raise a family. We have recently approved 10 new subdivisions that will add over 1,400 new residential units to our town. These new developments will feature a variety of styles and value that will meet the expectations of almost anyone looking for a home.
Mokena is a community that prides itself on offering a wide variety of opportunities for everyone (from individuals seeking a new home to businesses of all sizes), and it works very hard to maintain its small town atmosphere.
We welcome you to come join us at any of a variety of community events — our Lion’s Club Firecracker Dance, the Village’s 4th of July Parade and Fireworks Extravaganza, the Historic Mokena Home and Garden Tour, the Mokena Food and Wine Festival, our annual Down-Home Fest, Halloween Hollow, or the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Fest. I’m sure that when you see Mokena up close and personal, you will want to consider bringing your family and/or business home to Mokena.
