Introduction

river

Montgomery is a growing community quietly nestled along both banks of the Fox River in Kane and Kendall Counties in Illinois, just south of Aurora and about 40 miles west of Chicago. Montgomery was founded in 1835 and incorporated as a Village in 1858. Montgomery’s founder, Daniel Gray, selected the name in honor of his home in Montgomery County, New York. The stone grist mill built by Gray in 1853 has been beautifully restored and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

For many years, Montgomery maintained a fairly stable population, with 5,471 residents in 2000. A sharp increase in residential construction resulted in a population of more than 16,000 by 2008. Despite this rapid growth, Montgomery has maintained its warm, small-town atmosphere and is a close-knit community where neighbors care about each other.
