Mount Prospect Downtown
Today, downtown Mount Prospect serves the needs of the community with such amenities as the Village Hall, library, post office, Chamber of Commerce, banking and financial services, personal services and quality restaurants. The downtown area provides an attractive environment for pedestrians, shoppers, business and events such as the Fourth of July parade and Farmers' Market. It is no surprise that residents of Mount Prospect stay in the community after raising their children, often moving to other housing types within town. Mount Prospect has consistently sought a good balance between residential neighborhoods, business centers (like Kensington Business Center) and commercial areas (like Randhurst Shopping Center and other retail locations). Money Magazine (June 2003) ranked Mount Prospect as one of the top 10 suburban zip codes in which median home prices enjoyed the greatest increase over the past five years.
