Culture in Naperville

Naperville’s convenient suburban location enables conference planners to attract participants from a very large drive-in area. Compared to the downtown Chicago area, Naperville is a highly cost-effective choice with many attractions of its own. The Riverwalk, dedicated to Naperville’s Sesquicentennial Anniversary in 1981, is both a beautiful presentation of nature and a historic reminder of life in Naperville. Naper Settlement is dedicated to the preservation of the community’s history through its museum exhibits, architectural renovation and resident participation. Active outdoor visitors enjoy the numerous golf courses and tennis courts. Naperville’s distinct downtown area offers excellent dining and abundant shopping. Several weekends each year, thousands of people travel from significant distances to attend local events such as Naperville’s Ribfest in July and Last Fling, a four-day celebration during Labor Day weekend.

Culture in Naperville

In the past, weekends were more difficult to fill in the hotel industry. However, this trend has changed. More people are coming to Naperville for both local and not-so-local events. NASCAR races, held at the Chicagoland Speedway over 40 miles away, are a prime example of Naperville’s draw. Even though the actual event is such a distance away, guests have chosen to stay here in Naperville rather than being closer to trackside areas. This attests to our wide variety of evening activities, local attractions and quality overnight accommodations.

Many local hotels have completed extensive construction projects over the past two years in order to meet this high demand for quality service and extended stays. Projects like these are only possible in a healthy and growing community market.

Community partnerships, a key factor in any successful venture, have never been stronger than they are right now in Naperville. Working in conjunction with Naperville’s Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Downtown Naperville Alliance on last year’s film festival, the Dr. Seuss Art exhibit and the recent Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book release, have helped add support and strength to the community’s retail fiber. With the completion of Freedom Commons, a 25-acre commercial/retail development, more partnership opportunities will become available through the addition of excellent restaurants, varied retail outlet shops and a featured 45,000 square foot health club. Merchant partnerships like these result in dramatic offerings to customers with shared discount opportunities.
