Education in Naperville

The Naperville area is rich in higher learning institutions. This richness serves as an educational and technology corridor, allowing individuals the opportunity to hone their skills and stay current in today’s competitive business markets. With the evolution of education fast becoming a mindset toward continuous learning, Liberal Arts colleges and major universities are adapting their programs and teaching styles for mid-career adults. There is a shift toward teaching practical application versus theory, with business managers and executives becoming the professors.

The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce staff and Membership Development Committee focus on additional educational programs for Members. Seminars on business and sales skills allow Members of any size organization to take advantage of affordable, high quality education for both employees and owners. The Chamber 2020 Strategic Plan provides increased educational opportunities to members and the community in general. At Executive Leadership Resources, we work to develop leadership skills and assimilate new executives into the business market either through team workshops or through the individual coaching of executives and business owners.

Many family-owned businesses are often smaller, with tighter budgets, so they are less likely to be able to support continuing education for their employees. However, during the past few years many businesses, small and large, have been adding tuition reimbursement policies to their company’s benefits package. Owners are also willing to send employees to specific leadership training seminars such as those offered at North Central College.

Not-for-profit organizations conduct strategic planning sessions to incorporate leadership practices that guide their missions, visions and entire operations. In order to close the increasing gap between leadership skills and the number of available workers at all levels, businesses are looking to educational institutions and organizations whose focus is one of continued learning. The development of leadership skills in employees furthers the successful leadership transition of organizations.

As the Naperville area grows, so also grows the need for learning opportunities. Connected by a keystroke or video-call, living in a global age reinforces the need for a commitment to and availability of continued education. What an individual learns and brings to the workplace affects all business operations. It provides for a competent and skilled workforce while increasing business awareness toward education as a tool for growth — Naperville’s growth.
