Located northwest of Chicago's Loop in Cook County, Niles is only minutes from major interstates that lead to everywhere in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Residents have access to one of the world's most extensive public transit systems. Elevated electric trains, commuter trains, buses and multi-lane roadways are within easy reach. Four federal and six state highways serve the community. Motorists have quick access to I-94, I-294, I-194, I-90 and I-80. The nearest major interchange is less than two miles away.

The community's central location gives businesses here a great advantage; the entire Chicagoland region is in close proximity. Additionally, Niles is less than a day's travel for overland freight hauling to markets in Kansas City, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Memphis, St. Louis and Detroit.

For air travel, Niles is the envy of many. O'Hare International, the world's busiest airport where more than 40 commercial airlines serve over 65 million passengers annually, is located five minutes to the west. Midway Airport in Chicago, is approximately 15 minutes to the southeast of Niles, and is Illinois' second busiest airport, which offers many convenient flights as an alternative to O'Hare. National and international shipping uses the Illinois International Port, located on the south side of Chicago at 130th Street, approximately 25 miles from town. Access to the St. Lawrence Seaway is available from April 1st to December 15th. The shipping season from Chicago to New Orleans through the Inland Waterway lasts 12 months.

Niles offers a unique, free bus service that operates within the village. It stops at all major shopping centers, public facilities and within a short distance of every residence. Bus schedules can be picked up at the Village Hall and Chamber office.
