A body of dedicated civil servants entrusted to maintain the highest standards, uphold the law and enrich the lives of its citizens and also governs Niles. The city's government and services are second to none when it comes to providing leadership and commitment to the future. A full time Mayor and six Trustees are elected officials. Together, they are responsible for adopting ordinances and setting policies and direction for the Village. The Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, appoints the Village Manager. The Village Manager advises the Mayor and Board on policy decisions, exercises administrative control of all departments, and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Village. General Government works in cooperation with other departments to exercise responsible fiscal management, and to continue with exceptional services for residents and business owners. The City Council holds regular meetings and are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) where the public is always invited to voice concerns and opinions.

The new municipal center, located at 1000 Civic Center Drive, provides state-of-the-art facilities and houses the Manager's Office, administrative offices, finance department and code enforcement. Holding the public trust in highest esteem, these local officials provide first-rate service and professional security for Niles, making it an ideal place to live, work and raise a family.

The Niles Police Department exemplifies integrity and ethical behavior and works hand in hand with community leaders to provide a safe environment for all. Located at 7200 Milwaukee Avenue, N.P.D. provides 24-hour a day service and protection to Village residents by 53 sworn officers, 55 auxiliary officers, one animal control officer, 10 dispatchers, 35 community service officers, five Special Service Officers, six civilians and 18 school crossing guards. The Department provides for the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, the deterrence of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the recovery and return of property, and non-criminal service. N.P.D. also has a Human Services Department with an active senior division that provides supportive family services, waste removal and courtesy buses. Through proactive involvement with civic leaders, parents and children, the N.P.D. maintains the security of all citizens in Niles.

The Niles Fire Department is a Class 3 Fire Department in which all personnel are state certified in fire fighting and paramedic techniques.
