Northfield’s schools are often called the “crown jewel” of the community. In a 2003 Chicago Magazine survey of 192 school districts, Northfield’s schools received the highest ranking.
Only two other communities matched its score. Why the success? Factors measured by the survey—such as high student test scores, strong spending per pupil and low student-teacher ratios—tell only part of the story. Low faculty turnover, a cost-conscious approach to spending and a solid partnership between parents, children and the community also help Northfield’s schools thrive. High school students attend nationally recognized New Trier High School. Several top-notch private elementary and secondary schools also serve the Northfield area.
