Whether you're in the market for the latest fashions, home accessories, a mountain bike, or one-of-a-kind artworks, you'll find just what you're looking for here in Northern Kane County. Kick off a day of shopping and strolling the downtown areas of East and West Dundee with a stop for a cup of coffee or tea and a pastry at Kava Kava or at Piece-A-Cake Bakery on River Street in East Dundee. Spanning the river and connecting the two Dundees, Main Street is home to gift stores, a trading post, antique shops, home-decorating shops, a jewelry store, a designer-togs boutique, gourmet-food and wine markets, an old-fashioned candy shop, and more. Wander along River Street, running north from Main Street in East Dundee, and browse through art galleries, a trading post featuring authentic Native American art and antiques, and shops marketing everything from shabby chic furnishings to floor coverings. When it's time to break for lunch, pull up a chair at a downtown eatery or grab a sandwich to go from the deli or sandwich shop. Restaurant menus will satisfy appetites craving everything from Mexican and Italian to down-home American and pub fare. A visit to East Dundee isn't complete without a stop at the specialty shops found at the Milk Pail Village on Route 25 and at Haeger Potteries, a fourth-generation, family-owned business since 1871. The Haeger Factory Outlet, located on Van Buren Street, two blocks south of Route 72, offers a variety of ceramic vessels, boasts a museum, and invites visitors to view a video detailing ceramic production. For department stores and discount shops, point your car west. Spring Hill Mall, at Routes 31 and 72, houses small gift, clothing, teen-fashion, and other specialty shops, as well as larger retailers such as Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, Marshall Fields, J.C. Penney, and Wickes Furniture. An extensive food court and a number of restaurants supply sustenance to the daylong shopper. The mall opened in October 1980 and presently accommodates 150 stores, restaurants, and services and hosts a number of special interest and community events throughout the year. Strip malls and grocery stores are located throughout Northern Kane County. New shopping malls and spaces for big box retailers, service-oriented businesses, and specialty shops are under development at the intersection of Randall Road and Huntley Road in Carpentersville.
