Business is booming in Northern Kane County. Offering an educated and highly skilled workforce, excellent transportation systems, a stable and growing population, economic development specialists, ample land for development, and an easily accessed location, Northern Kane County continually attracts new business and industry while continuing to support businesses that have been around for decades. Companies in Northern Kane County produce automation systems, skylights, millwork, log home kits, flora and agricultural preservatives, laser printer cartridges, golf clubs, cabinetry, furniture, pottery, and more. Carpentersville, East Dundee, and Gilberts are the area's thriving industrial centers. Of the 120 manufacturing firms in the area, about 30 employ more than 50 workers and about a dozen employ more than 100 employees. Carpentersville's Revcor, a manufacturer of fans, blower wheels, and housing units for the HVAC industry, is the largest industrial employer with 450 workers. Carpentersville's Otto Engineering, a designer and manufacturer of precision switches and controls, employs 400 workers, while Eastman Chemical, also located in Carpentersville, employs 270 workers who produce castings and resins. Bulk Lift International, Inc., also in Carpentersville, employs 200 workers and produces woven polypropelene bulk bags. In East Dundee, Haeger Potteries employs 125 workers, Mohawk Construction employs 200 workers, and Wal-Mart employs 250 workers. A "golden economic corridor" is forming along Interstate 90, attracting a growing list of major corporations that offer expanded employment opportunities for area residents. The headquarters of Sears and SBC are just ten minutes to the east.
Poised for extensive growth, which is expected to sprawl westward to Route 47, the communities of Northern Kane County are presently developing the northern section of 1Randall Road into a retail center, which will include large franchises and smaller service businesses and shops. Plans are on the drawing board for a new industrial park to be built in the Village of Gilberts. Smaller entities, including graphic design companies, insurance agents, financial institutions, legal offices, and accounting firms continue to flourish in Northern Kane County. Ever-expanding, both in size and the services they offer, these thriving businesses provide a wide variety of services to our residents and our business communities.
