graphicThose that love the outdoors take advantage of Northlake Park District’s comprehensive program of activities, sports, and recreation for all ages. Northlake residents enjoy facilities at the many City parks, local golf courses, and the thousands of other recreational facilities found throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and the western suburbs.

As part of its innovative Open Land Space Project, the City of Northlake has received 32 acres of land from CenterPoint Properties development. The Centerpoint Preserve and Recreation Facility, is available for picnics and will be developed to include a bicycle and jogging path, a picnic pavilion with running water and more, all available for Northlake residents.

The City of Northlake has recently remodeled its park facilities so that most include picnic areas, gazebos and summer sprinklers for children. Northlake’s parks include, Ful-Roy Park at the corner of Roy and Fullerton Ave., Nagle-Perri Park at the corner of Parkview and Roy Ave., Jerome Park at the corner of Jerome and Fullerton Ave., Grant Park at 44 W. Golfview Drive, Kahl Park at 255 Palmer Ave. and Dorothy C. Hansen Park at LeMoyne and Morse. The Northlake Veterans Park District maintains Grant Park and Kahl Park, which have athletic fields for baseball and football, swimming pools, buildings and facilities for various community events and more.

For the avid golfer or weekend duffer, the Chicago metropolitan area is recognized as the home of some of the best golfing anywhere in the world, with dozens of challenging courses to suit all tastes and skill levels. In addition, there are more than 40 golf courses in adjacent DuPage County alone.

graphicBikers, hikers and nature lovers all enjoy The Illinois Prairie Path, which travels through the region and stretches for 45 miles along the rail bed of the former Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railway from Maywood to Wheaton, then branches out to Elgin and Aurora. A bike path through Centerpoint Properties will be completed in 2001.

Both Cook and DuPage Counties have thousands of acres of forest preserve in several nearby locations. Meticulously maintained, the forest preserves are available for family outings, company events and special occasions. Information is available at the Northlake Chamber of Commerce and through the respective County Forest Preserve District office.
