During the Winter Holidays, the Northlake Public Works Department hangs over 12,000 lights to brighten the City for a very festive season. Many Northlake residents utilize the first rate facilities provided by the Northlake Public Library which celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 1997. The library was established by the City in 1957 and, in 1964, built a new library at its current location, 231 N. Wolf Rd. The new building was a great improvement over the older one and, in 1974, became the administrative responsibility of a separate governmental body known as the Northlake Public Library District. In 1990, voters approved additions to the existing building and in November 1998, voters increased funding for the library resulting in extended operating hours, Internet computer access and the purchase of new materials for everyone. Nearby, the countless sites and attractions in Chicagoland, its world famous entertainers, championship professional sports teams, and unforgettable nightlife offer a lifetime of fascinating persuasions.
