The Village of Oak Brook Hotel, Convention and Visitors Committee was established September 25, 1990 by the Village of Oak Brook. The purpose of the committee was to develop recommendations regarding the use of the Village’s hotel tax revenue. The committee has always encouraged the use of this tax revenue for marketing Oak Brook hotels.

According to Julie Coker, these marketing dollars provided critical support for hotels in the Village as the tourism industry faced economic downfalls in 1990, following the Afghanistan War, and in 2001, following the attack on the World Trade Center. For example, hotel occupancy levels were at 63% in 2002, compared with 80% in 2006.

Coker said, “Although hotels are experts at reducing costs while maintaining guest amenities, challenging economic periods usually prompt drastic reductions in hotel marketing budgets. These reductions, ironically, usually come at a time when hotels especially need marketing support. The Village of Oak Brook has provided that support when hotels need it most.”

The Village also has provided leadership and foresight in its hotel tax revenue planning. This vision has resulted in increased tourism for Oak Brook during dynamic economic years, and maintenance of a stable local economy during ess predictable economic years.

Through its merger with Hilton International in 2005, the Hilton Hotels Corporation grew from 250 owned, managed and franchised hotels to nearly 2,800 hotels and 475,000 guest rooms in 80 countries. Today, the Oakbrook Hilton Suites and Hilton Garden Inn in Oakbrook Terrace are part of this international network of premier hotels.

General Manager Carlos Abaunza said that the Hilton Hotels Corporation established the hotels in Oakbrook Terrace “to bring two quality hotels affiliated with a powerful brand name to complement the well-known Drury Lane Theatre and Conference Center.”

“Our goal is to be the hotel of choice in DuPage County and to surpass the expectations of both our internal and external customers,” said Abaunza. “We want to be known as the easiest and most flexible hotels to do business with, and to offer and maintain a great product with the latest technology in the industry, while providing exceptional hassle free service.”

The Hiltons of Oakbrook are places to enjoy tranquility away from downtown Chicago, yet they remain close enough to the airports and other major attractions. Both hotels have been renovated to provide guests the best amenities to ensure return visits.

The Oakbrook Hilton Suites and Hilton Garden Inn have been recognized for excellent management and service by their industry peers and guests. The hotels have received numerous awards.
