Both active and passive recreational opportunities are available throughout Oak Forest, with the Oak Forest Park District standing as a prominent resource for area residents. The park district offers residents of all ages and abilities a multitude of programming and recreation facilities. Plus, the park district oversees more than 20 parks that dot the map of the city. These parks are equipped with walking paths, fishing ponds, ball and soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, tot lots, areas for picnicking and more. Central Park houses the Rotary Skate Park, complete with ramps, grind rails and multiple jumps, while Jesk Park, Vergne Way Park and Gorman Park offer in-line skate areas.
The park district’s programs include a number of athletic offerings, gymnastics and a recently expanded list of dance programs, as well as day camps, arts and crafts classes, theater camps and much more—all for toddlers through seniors!
Nearby, Oak Forest residents have access to a fully equipped Health and Fitness Center featuring cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, personal training and a variety of fitness classes.
Special events are also part of the package and include festive holiday activities, concerts in the park and much more.
Additionally, the South Suburban Special Recreation Association, a significant extension of the park district, was created in order to provide those with special needs or disabilities with the opportunity to participate in a number of recreational programs throughout the year.
Oak Forest residents also have access to the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, which maintains the area’s preserves and also offers a range of recreational activities and facilities.

Partly due to the region’s rolling fields and the early residents’ love of the game, the area has some of the finest golf in the country with more than 800 holes within a 20-mile radius of Oak Forest. The city itself is home to the George W. Dunne National Golf Course, which is overseen by Billy Casper Golf, LLC in Virginia. This 18-hole course, recognized as one of the top public courses by Golf Digest, boasts challenging terrain with tree-lined fairways, eight lakes coming into play on 11 holes and sand traps.
