There’s always something to do in and around Olympia Fields. Besides golf, many other attractions can be found within a short drive of the community. The Village’s annual Fall Family Celebration is a great opportunity for meeting fellow residents and enjoying the Village’s parks. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, several neighboring communities also host an array of festivals celebrating local history, ethnic diversity and national holidays. Also close by are movie theaters, health clubs, bowling, outdoor recreational facilities, sports/activities centers and much more. Located so close to downtown Chicago, the city’s many and varied museums, cultural attractions, events, nightspots, fine restaurants, professional sports and other entertainment amenities are never more than a 30-minute drive or convenient train trip away.
World-class entertainment, though, is as close as a five minute drive to the outdoor First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, formerly known as the Tweeter Center, in Tinley Park. Its annual playbill features an exciting lineup of nationally and internationally recognized headliner comedy, music, plays, and special events.
Olympia Fields currently has a seasonal Farmer’s Market, that runs from June through the middle of October. The Market has a wide variety of home grown produce, flowers, and such unique items as farm fresh eggs, grass fed beef and homemade cheeses. You will also find other specialty items such as hand-woven rugs, wind chimes, tropical fish and much more. The Market is open on Fridays from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m.
The Illinois Philharmonic and Southwest Symphony Orchestras perform concerts at the newly built Center for Arts and Technology at Governor’s State University, in nearby University Park. The orchestras offer performances throughout the year by nationally and internationally recognized artists such as the Hubbard Street Dance Company, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and many more. The Center is also a venue for numerous forms of musical and dance entertainment. In addition, the campus houses the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park, featuring one of the world’s most notable collections of outdoor sculpture.
The Homewood/Flossmoor Art Associates Chapter of the Art Institute of Chicago works to enrich local residents’ knowledge and appreciation of art, offering lectures presented locally and day trips to the Art Institute.
In nearby Park Forest, the Tall Grass Arts Association and Gallery offers art education and features the works of local, national and international renown artists. The Illinois Theater Center presents a variety of performing artists throughout the year, along with the Chicago Heights Drama Group, who also presents a series of plays each year.
